During the Civil War more than 5 million cartridges supplied by Gwyn & Cambell owners of Cosmopolitan Arms Co. No labeled package have been identified. It appears that some cartridge were wrapped with linen to strength. Some had a simple wrapped linen case closed with a piece of thin paper. 1,204,000 cartridges produced by the St. Louis Arsenal in 1864 were of this simple wrapped linen type.
